NWOBHM.com is a free online encyclopedia for all those wonderful bands and individuals who were part of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement and gave us excellent music back in the early 1980s! Of course it is also about those old geezers who are still rocking with their mates today! We love you guys!
NWOBHM.com is also about all the aficionados from all over the world who are looking for exciting old sounds through the lines and between the chaos of the Internet Age. It is about us collectors of physical products to have a solid point of reference when it comes to all the geek information we want about the correct catalogue numbers or the exact release dates not to mention the different album covers. It is about collecting all sorts of vintage memorabilia, photos and memories from an age long gone but never forgotten and forever loved!
It is about discovering old tapes in the dungeons with unreleased demos and unleashing them to the world! It is about discovering “new” bands from yesteryear and sharing all we can find about them. It is about the excitement and the thirst for music… more or less the same excitement those youngsters had back in the early 1980s.
Although this page is not about analyzing the aspects of NWOBHM here are some key points that reflect the spirit of the encyclopedia:
- There is some debate as to whether NWOBHM was a movement or a distinguished musical genre within the realms of Metal Music. We believe it was a bit of both.
- It is generally accepted that NWOBHM flourished between 1977-1983. We have stretched those limits a bit to include bands that might have been formed in, say 1983, but released a demo or an album in 1985. We consider them part of the game.
- We have not included bands from the Republic of Ireland because geographically it is not part of Great Britain. Absolutely nothing to do with politics here. We feature only British bands including bands from Northern Ireland.
- We have not created pages for the “big four” of NWOBHM: Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Saxon and Venom. There are several websites out there covering every single aspect about them. However, if you want to make a page for any of them in the same style of this encyclopedia you are more than welcome to do so. Please read the contribute page first and contact us
